Job Description
About Mojave Energy Systems, Inc.
Mojave is changing the physics of air conditioning. Air conditioning consumes ~9% of total global electricity production and results in the emissions of 1 billion tons of carbon dioxide annually. It’s time for a change, and Mojave’s liquid desiccant air conditioning systems are doing just that. If you want to change the world, starting with the world of air conditioning, then you may belong at Mojave. We are looking for purpose-driven team members who enjoy problem solving, teamwork, and personal growth to join our venture-backed company.
About the Engineering Technician position.
We’re looking for a skilled engineering technician to add to our growing team. As an engineering technician on a team of engineers, technicians, and scientists you will have the opportunity to build, troubleshoot, and repair our innovative liquid desiccant air conditioning system. The successful candidate will be capable of mechanical and electrical assembly. Troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of fan, pump, and electrical systems is also required. This position requires the ability to travel to customer locations across the U.S. and work relatively independently with minimal oversite. We offer competitive salary and benefits and stock options in this early-stage, venture-backed business.
Responsibilities
- Follow mechanical and electrical drawings to assemble, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot test rigs, data acquisition systems, small-scale prototypes, and full-scale commercial HVAC equipment
- Execute test plans on fluid/thermal and electrochemical systems and subsystems to address performance, reliability, and robustness
- Use electrical and piping schematics to troubleshoot and repair electro-mechanical equipment
- Perform all builds in a workmanlike manner with minimal oversight and guidance
- Work both independently and under the direction of mechanical and design engineers
- Strong sense of ownership and desire for personal growth: ability to work overtime as needed.
- Interface clearly and politely with customers and coworkers
- Clearly document and report activities and repairs undertaken, test procedures, and experimental results
- Offer operational insight into systems that are not working correctly
- Record results meticulously in shared electronic files (likely automated)
Qualifications
- 5+ years as an engineering technician
- Strong attention to detail
- Proven verbal communication skills including in remote settings (i.e., over phone or video)
- Proven written communication skills including email communication and formal documentation
- Demonstrated history of testing, analyzing, and troubleshooting refrigeration/thermal, air flow, and liquid flow systems
- Experienced in instrumentation and data acquisition systems, as well as various forms of temperature, pressure, and flow measurement
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- Comfort and ability to both build a “good enough” test setup quickly and to build precise, professional, customer-facing product… and the wisdom to know when to do each
- Skilled with hand tools, power tools, basic machine shop (e.g., band saw, drill press, press brake), and measurement devices (e.g., multimeter, calipers)
