Schramsberg Vineyards is looking for a Staff Accountant to join our team.
Staff Accountant
Location: Schramsberg Vineyards, Calistoga,CA

Summary:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing professional accounting assignments, including providing specialized or general analysis in various accounting functions such as Accounts Payable, Account Receivable, General Accounting and Property Accounting. Works with all company departments to ensure that general ledger accounts are accurate, and invoices are coded correctly and paid out timely, along with the accurate collection of incoming payments. This person will be a key member in the direct communication with vendors and clients via email and phone.
Essential Functions:
Accounts Payable – 60%
- Review and process invoices for timely payment with corresponding coding per accounting policies and procedures.
- Verify invoices against purchases to ensure goods or services were received before issuing payment.
- Clarify any questionable invoice items or pricing.
- Processes weekly disbursement checks.
- Manage file retention according to accounting guidelines.
- Process and issue 1099 statements.
General Accounting - 20%
- Prepare monthly journal entries
- Assists Controller in Month-end closure and general ledger accounts.
- Manage and prepare supporting documentation for annual fiscal audit.
- Direct involvement with the preparation of 702 reporting requirements.
- Process all ACH and wire transfers as needed.
- Reconcile corporate credit card accounts.
- Direct involvement with daily POS closing procedures.
- Perform general office duties, such as filing, answering telephones, and handling routine correspondence.
- Track and manage the petty cash.
- Handle and track the payment of all grape purchases with growers.
- Track and support Controller with Cost accounting assignments.
Accounts Receivable - 15%
- Prepare invoices and billing statements to various customer accounts.
- Prepare, post, and record incoming payments in compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Prepare bank deposits by compiling data from cashiers, verifying, and balancing receipts, and sending cash, checks, or other forms of payments to banks.
- Reconcile the accounts receivable ledger to ensure that all payments are properly accounted and posted.
- Track export orders and compute the appropriate commission due to brokers.
- On occasion, will draft correspondence for standard past-due accounts and collections.
Property and Fixed Assets - 5%
- Create and maintain asset records and files of all property and Vineyards owned and leased by the Company.
- Create and maintain files of all vehicles owned by the company.
- Create and maintain records for large capital development projects.
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in a similar accounting role.
- Prior Winery experience preferred.
- AMS accounting software experience is a plus.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Be able to adapt in a dynamic work enviroment.
- Anticipate needs and identify solutions proactively.
- Willingness to participate in winery special events conducted for trade, public and guests.
- Advance skills with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).
- Have a valid California Class “C” driver’s license and be insurable.
- Able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Pay Range: 60k to 72k per year
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $72,000.00 per year
