POSITION SUMMARY:
- The Primary Counselor-I position provides clinical care and treatment to Central Valley Behavioral Health Services Inc. SUD and co-occurring disorder clients.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have minimum certification as a CADC-I or equivalent (CADC-II or equivalent is preferred) at the time of application. At least three years of experience assessing and providing treatment to substance use and co-occurring disorder populations within a private-pay, insurance-based professional clinical model. Must be proficient in utilizing ASAM Criteria. Must possess above-average documentation skills. At least two years of experience working with electronic medical reporting systems (EMR) and prior experience with BestNotes is preferred.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
- Screen clients, review records, and confer with the treatment team to evaluate clients’ mental and physical concerns in determining suitability for treatment at CVBH.
- Must be skilled in providing individual counseling sessions.
- Must be skilled in providing group counseling, process groups, psycho-educational groups, psycho-dynamic groups, relapse prevention education, etc.
- Complete and maintain accurate and timely client records, assessments, progress notes, utilization review reports, other required reports, and information to outside stakeholders.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on prior assessments, client input, and client histories.
- Participate in regular review and treatment team evaluation regarding the client’s progress concerning measurable goals described in treatment plans.
- Modify treatment plans to comply with changes in client status.
- Participate in case conferences and staff meetings.
- Coordinate counseling efforts with mental health professionals and other health professionals such as doctors, nurses, and social workers.
- Advocacy for clients to assist in crisis resolution.
- Provide clients and their family members with information and education about substance use and co-occurring disorders.
- Assist family members in connecting to resources and available services and provide appropriate referrals when necessary.
- Attending training sessions and in-services to increase knowledge and skills.
- Plan and implement follow-up and aftercare programs for discharging clients.
- Act as a liaison between clients and medical staff.
- Coordinate activities with courts, probation officers, community services, and other post-discharge agencies.
- Confer with the client’s family and loved ones (when appropriate) to inform them of treatment planning and progress.
- Instruct others in program methods, procedures, and functions as needed.
- Follow the progress of discharged clients.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Must be well-versed in the 12-core functions and techniques of SUD counseling and possess excellent clinical skills.

- Must possess expertise in communicating utilizing highly developed written and verbal skills.
- Must be able to read and comprehend professional manuals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Experience:
- Substance Use Disorder:3 years providing direct services in 12-core functions.
- Co-occurring Disorders: 3 years.

License/Certification:

Pay: $52,000.00 - $60,320.00 per year
