Job Description

Overview of the Position:

Assist in the reverse engineering and drawing creation of FAA approved aftermarket aircraft parts by programming and operating a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) using PC-DMIS or OGP Zone3 and other precision measuring tools, and providing feedback and recommendations to engineers regarding part features, drawing layout and GD&T usage.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Proficiently run existing PC-DMIS or OGP Zone3 programs and write basic programs used to collect part data to assist in the reverse engineering of aircraft parts
  • Competently use basic precision hand tools, such as an Optical Comparator, Micrometer, Height Gage, etc. to provide consistently accurate inspection of components and assemblies
  • Analyze and review part blueprints and provide feedback and recommendations related to drawing layout and proper application of GD&T concepts
  • Create and run repeatable part programs of any complexity on the CMM using MC-DMIS and gather dimensional data.
  • Provide training and mentorship of others in the care, operation, and programming of Coordinate Measuring Machines
  • Create and update relevant training materials
  • Occasionally use precision hand tools, such as an Optical Comparator, Micrometer, Height Gage, etc. to provide accurate inspection of components and assemblies
  • Use 3D CAD software to align and modify models and evaluate part scan data.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and metrology groups to ensure department goals are achieved
  • Use precision metrology measurement tools to analyze parts/features
  • Create dimensional data reports in Excel
  • Manage time effectively and consistently meet task deadlines
  • Perform special projects or assignment to support department

  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Understanding of GD&T standards per ASME Y14.5
  • Strong desire to learn new metrology tools, software and concepts
  • Perform metrology best practices to ensure proper measurement results
  • Consistently provide accurate measurement results
  • Computer aided design experience: SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred.
  • Computer skills using Windows and MS Office Suite
  • Excellent attention to detail and troubleshooting ability
  • Mechanical inspection experience a plus
  • CMM experience (using PC-DMIS or OGP Zone3)
  • Requires little or no supervision
  • Able to conduct training and presentations on various tools and continuous improvement concepts

Education / Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in technical field preferred
  • Minimum 1or more years CMM programming (or equivalent experience)

: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
