Private Montecito Estate is looking for a dedicated gardener to join our growing team. Our goal is to maintain healthy grounds with an organic approach. With experience in horticulture and gardening, you will perform lawn and irrigation maintenance, plant and pest identification and hand pruning as needed. As the gardener, you will ensure the growth and vibrancy of the plants, flowers, lawns, and garden structures. Job Duties
- Installs, maintains, feeds, prunes, trims, and waters a variety of plants, trees, and shrubs in order to maintain a beautiful environment.
- Manually removes, installs, and maintains plant material in beds and containers.
- Relocates specimen trees and shrubs when needed.
- Cleans fountains on property regularly.
- Keeps garden paths and green spaces clear of debris.
- Maintains the sprinkler and irrigation systems, including identifying and resolving leaks. Knowledge of well operations is a bonus.
- Making and applying compost tea to the gardens.
- Works safely with a variety of power equipment, such as ride on mowers, edgers, trimmers and blowers.
- Assists with various types of pest control on the grounds with the use of different techniques like creating barriers to prevent pests from entering a building, setting mechanical traps, and placing poisonous paste or bait where needed.
- Ensures the buildings are free from pests by maintaining overgrowth of plants around the structures and ensuring the health and safety of occupants.
- Assists with outdoor pool furniture - covers, umbrellas and moving of furniture as needed.
- Interacts with and communicates with various groups and individuals, such as the immediate supervisor, Estate manager, co-workers, contractors, vendors and guests.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Responsibilities: Performs gardening and seeks guidance on complex landscaping work.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of different plants and their maintenance requirements, such as water needs, pruning and fertilization. Good skills with using tools and equipment needed for landscape work. Ability to understand and comply with requirements for the safe performance of work.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Proactive maintenance of garden areas.
- Planting, mulching, fertilization, plant treatments.
- Irrigation install, diagnosis and repair.
- Landscape lighting install, diagnosis and repair.
- Plant ID, plant care experience, plant palette design.

Requirements
- A minimum of 2 years of gardening experience.
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Legal authorization to work in the US.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
- Must be able to perform work on a ladder
