Director, Enterprise Editorial Strategy
The Corporate Communications team oversees the development and management of The Walt Disney Company’s reputation through external and internal communications strategies that support the company’s strategic priorities and vision.
We are looking for an experienced communications strategist and external communications expert to join our Corporate Communications team as the Director, Enterprise Editorial Strategy to lead the Walt Disney Company’s enterprise-wide news and editorial operation as part of the corporate communications team.
The Director will:

Lead an enterprise-wide team of writers and editors responsible for telling the business and reputational story of The Walt Disney Company to key stakeholders – including the media, employees, investors, consumers, and legislators—through a variety of company-operated platforms both external and internal.

Create an in-house communications “newsroom” and develop highly engaging external platforms—from written, to social to video-that will service breaking news and features from across the company to reporters and investors. In future state, the newsroom will become a primary source of news and information for journalists working on breaking-news and long-lead stories.

Evaluate and harmonize internal and external editorial platforms across the enterprise worldwide to ensure story calendars, messaging and look-and-feel are coordinated and ladder-up to the broader corporate narrative and business goals of The Walt Disney Company.

Assign, write and edit high-impact stories about The Walt Disney Company’s businesses directed to our key stakeholder groups, particularly media and employees. Focus should be on developing stories rich in news and analysis that advance the corporate narrative.

Partner with internal stakeholders across the enterprise to proactively identify key priorities and initiatives at the business unit level that can be leveraged to tell compelling, high-impact stories about the broader enterprise.

Proactively identify issues and create editorial strategies that effectively communicate the company’s position.

Provide coordination and strategic plans to optimize social media news channels enterprise-wide.

Provide editorial and writing support for projects across Corporate, which may include Finance, Investor Relations, Legal, Corporate Social Responsibility, HR and Legal, Corporate Social Responsibility and DEI.

Use a data-driven approach to track impact of editorial campaigns and expand reach.
Requirements

BA in journalism, communications, English, or related field.

10+ years of professional experience in journalism at the national level, with expertise in both written and visual storytelling. Communications experience a plus, but not necessary.

Deep knowledge of the entertainment industry and business journalism, with strong financial literacy and ability to translate complex financial and regulatory information into compelling narratives of interest to key opinion leaders.

Expertise and demonstrated success in breaking news and creating high-impact stories that move the needle.

Track record of developing news platforms that expand reach, including digital newsletters, micro-sites, video-casts, etc.

Proven ability to drive innovation through influence, with experience navigating complex operating environments and collaborating across teams.

Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to grasp and translate complex and disparate ideas into a cohesive editorial strategy with clear messaging.

Ability to craft and edit internal and external communications related to Corporate topic areas.
The hiring range for this position in California is $159,440.00 to $219,230.00 per year and in New York is $171,216 to 229,680. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
