Job Description:
Welders are responsible for the installation of piping and mechanical systems for multiple types of building systems in commercial applications. This person must be able to interpret the requirements of many different styles of welding and apply these skills as required to install piping systems and mechanical systems as necessary. Welders must be experienced in Mig, Tig and Stick welding and fully understand the ASME / AWS requirements of the type of welding performed. Welders at C R Hipp are typically responsible for welding commercial and industrial piping such as process, chilled and hot water systems; and fabrication of support systems for mechanical systems and piping as required. Welders must have the ability to evaluate the scheduled work and installation methods to ensure they are safe, meet local building codes, are installed per plans, meet ASME / AWS standards (as applicable) and meet International Building Code requirements. Welders may also have different areas of expertise such as Plumbing, HVAC, pipefitting and general mechanical skills that add to their skill levels. Welders must demonstrate excellent customer service skills, professional attitude and exceptional work ethics to develop trust with the customer and respect from co-workers.
Essential Functions:

Provides welding services to fabricate and install piping and equipment per industry standards, plans and specifications, meet ASME / AWS requirements, international building codes and local codes as applicable. Must be capable of interpreting and understanding these requirements to efficiently fabricate and install equipment.

Welders must be able to read and interpret drawings, plans and specifications.

Welders must fully understand ASME / AWS requirements and methods, be capable of operating many types of welding equipment and have the knowledge to select rod sizes, heat settings, etc…

They understand the characteristics of different metals such as stainless steel, carbon steel and aluminum and what methods are used to weld these metals per ASME / AWS requirements.
