Responsibilities
- Provides therapeutic care, treatment, and rehabilitation of clients.
- Facilitates individual and group counseling sessions.
- Works with other social agencies and managed care organizations, hospitals, clinics, courts, prisons, and gatekeepers to meet client needs and assist them in utilizing provided resources.
- Prepares treatment plans, histories, writes letters, generates reports and keeps records.
- Provides assessments and evaluations based on ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) criteria.
- Assesses treatment plans for patients using the ASI (Addiction Severity Index) and the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders).
- Determines the appropriate level of care according to ASAM criteria.
- Observes clients throughout treatment to determine the need for continued services, transfer, or discharge.
- Reviews and, where necessary, revises client treatment plans.
- Develops discharge/transfer plan to ensure access to appropriate levels of care.
- Contacts, consults, and coordinates with referral sources as appropriate.
- Participates with a multidisciplinary team for assigned clients.
- Provides active case consultation.
- Documents all counseling and education services, assessments, reassessments, referrals and follow- up in the client's clinical record, and providing appropriate signatures and dating of such entries, including those made in electronic records.
- Responsible for full patient case load and documentation of accountability procedures that require verification of interventions.
- Moderates special groups such as family meetings, workshops or presentations.
Requirements
- Master's or Bachelor's with a degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services or related field is preferred; Associate's Degree in related fields is required.
- Possession of an CADC, LCADC, LSW, LCSW, LPC, or LAC license is required.
- Must have least two years working as a counselor, preferably in an addiction treatment facility.
- Knowledge of the basic principles, philosophies, practices, and procedures involved at drug treatment facilities.
- Familiar with a facility environment, primary functions performed, and an understanding of a patient’s levels of care.
- Experience with facilitating groups, seminars, meetings and/or specialized therapeutic groups and activities.
