POSITION SUMMARY:
MPLX Gathering & Processing - Operations Services Department is seeking a G&P Chemist II to support six gathering systems across Oklahoma and East Texas. This position will report directly to the Laboratory Supervisor and be located in Elk City, OK.
This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. The actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts and/or oversees analysis of natural gas products, ensures the laboratory's operations adhere to the elements of good lab practice and applicable standards of quality control and quality assurance.
Records and/or reviews the results obtained through analysis; assembles and summarizes data in report form; issues Natural Gas Analysis Reports to external and internal customers.
Conducts calibrations and troubleshooting and develops corrective actions to mitigate unfavorable conditions found as a result of analysis; knowledgeable on instruments in the lab and able to maintain equipment functionality.
Perform advanced chromatography techniques, including method setup, peak integration, maintenance including replacement of valve actuators, inlet filters, sample lines, column maintenance, adjusting GC parameters, etc.
Adapts to lab needs such as assisting peers in coordinating lab initiatives, working on special projects as needed, and assisting with FlowCal; conduct internal and external audits.
Keeps abreast of the latest developments and changes in testing methods, equipment and techniques used in the chemical field; be an active participant in lab focus groups for testing methods and technology.
Writes and reviews Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); Develops training for Lab Technicians and ensures compliance with MPC Lab Training Standards.
Responsible for following and enforcing all safety rules and guidelines as established by the company. Ensure overall safe operation of the laboratory, which includes the laboratory safety and chemical hygiene program.
Maintain close working relationships with producers and vendors as point of contact to supply reports, request quotes, and schedule service calls.
Manage inventory for supplies, calibration standards, and carrier gases.
Steam clean sample cylinders and perform helium baseline checks to ensure quality control.
Acts as a liaison between the laboratory and other stakeholders in the company.
Position requires transporting gas sample cylinders via company vehicle.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
SKILLS
Computer proficiency – Gas analysis requires working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, namely Excel.
Mechanical Aptitude – some equipment maintenance may be required.
Calibration - Develops ability to perform calibration on instruments with accuracy and precision in accordance with established procedures. Aware of environmental factors such as temperature, vibration, noise affecting calibration.
Chromatography Fundamentals -Develops working knowledge of underlying principles of the chromatographic process, mechanisms that result in chromatographic separation, analytical techniques used to determine composition of natural gas and calculate its energy content.
Natural Gas Composition - Develops knowledge of natural gas components, their chemical composition and effects of temperature and pressure.
Safety Awareness - Ability to recognize and identify potential hazards. Evaluates changes in work environment with respect to impact on safety of self and others. Understands potential threats created by deviation from safety procedures and improper use of tools and equipment. Uses personal protection equipment. Uses tools and equipment in compliance with manuals and training. Calls attention to potential and actual hazardous conditions as they arise. Stops work if there are unsafe working conditions.
