The Biomedical division is committed to building meaningful partnerships based off quality, integrity, and teamwork. WG Biomedical is a leading supplier of animal tissue to the medical device and pharmaceutical industry. We partner with abattoirs (livestock harvest facilities) to source livestock tissue that is utilized for life improving medical devices and medication. We partner with our customers to provide this tissue while meeting their specifications and regulatory needs.
This role will serve as the lead in our developing and continuing relationships with our customers. The Customer Specialist is responsible for driving growth, quality, and customer satisfaction in the Biomedical division. They serve a key role with our customers through handling of communication, orders, invoices, contracts, audit schedules, etc. The overall goal of this role is drive growth and maintain the quality care provided to both our abattoir partners and our customers. This position will work closely with the Abattoir and Tissue Specialist and President/Owner. This position is based in Ames, Iowa with travel required. Travel is estimated at 25%.
Responsibilities:
Customer Management
- Interface and communicate with customers from startups to world renown medical companies.
- Ensure customer expectations are being met.
- Ensure customer specifications, training records and procedures are up to date, on file, and in compliance.
- Review customer contracts for variation and expiration.
- Plan annual or semi-annual discussions with customers regarding business needs, pricing, and expectations.
- Resolve quality, billing, contract, etc. issues and discrepancies.
- Assist in customer audits as needed; travel is required.
- Perform new customer onboarding.
- Ensure information regarding orders are relayed to our customers.
- Serve as a biomedical expert in the use of livestock tissue with a focus on understanding the medical, pharmaceutical, etc needs and goals
Customer Orders, Billing and Reporting
- Compile weekly orders and complete sales orders for invoicing.
- Invoice customer orders.
- Report on key KPIs including orders left outstanding, quality errors, customer satisfaction, etc.
Business Development
- Expand customer base.
- Perform initial consultation to gauge needs and our abilities.
- Read through, facilitate, and consult with President on any legal documentation or agreements.
- Identify gaps between customers’ needs and our abilities and establish a plan to fill the gaps.
- Maintain and communicate timelines.
- Evaluate pricing and margins.
- Facilitate Vendor Pricing agreements.
- Perform cost analysis and projections on products.
- Perform market research and identify targets.
- Work with marketing to develop customer hunting processes/tools/templates.
- Further develop and articulate sales message.
- Expand product lines where possible.
- Process billing and invoicing of customers.
- Work proactively with Meats division sales team where cross-over opportunities exist on developing overall WG business.
Abattoir/Harvest Partner Management
- Work jointly with Abattoir and Tissue specialist to foster positive, effective and ongoing relationships with our abattoir partners.
- Maintain relationships with suppliers including communicating expectations.
- Coordinate with Abattoir and Tissue Specialist to initiate audits.
- Resolve issues regarding tissue quality, documentation for shipments and training.
- As needed request supplies from customers in the event our partner abattoir requests more supplies.
- As needed check incoming certificates of compliance for completeness or correctness and make appropriate corrections as needed.
Regulatory Management
- Maintain record retention in compliance with medical, business, harvest, FDA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Ensure our ISO 9001 system is enforced, maintained, and in compliance.
- Participate in ISO 9001 audits and responses to any audit recommendations.
- Facilitate regulatory meetings between our customers and abattoir partners and assist in answering any regulatory questions.
Biomedical Team
- Fill in for the Abattoir and Tissue Specialist in the case of an absence due to vacation, work travel, emergency, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
- 4 year business, agriculture, animal science, veterinary science, medical degree or equivalent required.
- Strong interest in customer development and technical sales in the livestock and medical industries.
- Passion for developing and growing business.
- Strong written and oral customer communication skills.
- Able to work in an Abattoir/Slaughter setting.
- Able to work with customers ranging from start ups to large international organizations.
- Ability to work with a distributed team from WG personnel to abattoir personnel to temporary employees to customer staff.
- Ability and interest in ensuring compliance with various regulatory, abattoir, and customer requirements.
- Strong understanding of animal anatomy.
- Strong analytical work ethic, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Strong computer skills; basic-to-intermediate skill level in Microsoft Excel.
- Role model of sound judgement, personal responsibility, meeting deadlines and team player.
- Highly organized and detail driven.
- Self-motivated, responsive; excellent verbal and written communication, tact.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
