JSI is the consulting and broadband solutions leader for Rural and Tier II Service Providers. Over the past several years, JSI has expanded its services from compliance and regulatory consulting to business and finance consulting. In addition, with the recent acquisition of two broadband engineering firms, JSI is offering engineering, implementation, and managed services of broadband solutions. With billions of dollars of new investments every year and the critical need to extend broadband offerings across the country, the US communications space has been growing rapidly, and JSI is well-positioned to partner with our clients to help them succeed.
We are in a period of unprecedented growth and are seeking a (Sr) Network Specialist/Engineer Transport Networks to support our team out of our Lubbock, TX office.
Responsibilities:
· Analyzing and designing Wave Division Multiplexing (WDM) transport networks for ISPs
· Implementing network designs for WDM networks and configuring equipment/related systems
· Configuring Layer 1 and Layer 2 circuits over the transport network
· Performing network upgrades and circuit cutovers
· Directly working with ISPs to troubleshoot issues in WDM network existing networks
· Documenting and diagraming networks, relevant processes and troubleshooting steps
· Communicating technical concepts in clear and understandable manner
· Keeping up with industry developments, new technologies and best practices
· Improving knowledge and expertise through independent research, practice and industry accepted certifications
Qualifications:
· Proficiency with optical transport, WDM and ROADM technologies
· Experience with WDM optical design is preferred.
· Hands-on experience with transport WDM equipment from vendors such as: BTI, Ciena, Cisco, Infinera, Nokia and related element management systems
· Understanding of networking concepts and IP networks
· Network certifications are considered a plus
· Experience with SONET networking is a plus
· Proficiency with standard operations of Windows-based computers and Office product suite
· Good oral and written communication
· Ability to work as part of a team
· Excellent problem-solving skills
· Ability to work on multiple projects
· Attention to details and good judgment
· Desire to learn and apply what you learn immediately
Education and Experience:
· Requires 3-5 years’ experience of operating, troubleshooting and/or designing telecommunication WDM transport networks
· Computer/Management Information Systems or similar bachelor’s degrees
· Engineering or Computer Science degrees are required for the Network Engineer role
Job Type:
· Full time, non-supervisory
· Some travel required
· On-call duties may be required
