Position Description:
The Center on Reproductive Health, Law, and Policy at UCLA School of Law is seeking a Staff Attorney to oversee the Southern California Legal Alliance for Reproductive Justice (SoCal LARJ) and conduct research and analysis related to reproductive health, law, and public policy. The Staff Attorney will be an experienced lawyer or legal scholar with litigation, legislative lawyering, and/or public policy experience. Responsible for facilitating the provision of pro bono legal support from approximately 50 law firms, the Staff Attorney will coordinate, advise, and liaise with partners, clients, and members of SoCal LARJ's Steering Committee and Advisory Council. The Staff Attorney will follow rapidly changing local, state, and national legal developments and provide legal research and analysis related to litigation, legislation, and regulatory and policy developments concerning issues of reproductive health. The Staff Attorney will also work on independent research projects to inform current issues of law and public policy.
The primary duties of the Staff Attorney will be coordinating the Southern California Legal Alliance for Reproductive Justice (SoCal LARJ), including proactively approaching service providers and advocacy groups in Los Angeles County and working with them to secure pro bono legal representation; continuing to build an innovative Medical-Legal Partnership at Planned Parenthood Los Angeles' Inglewood Health & Community Center; and providing trainings to a variety of audiences about reproductive rights issues. Other duties may include conducting legal research on reproductive health-related public policies; writing articles and commentary for a variety of publications; preparing amicus briefs for selected court cases; drafting testimony and providing legal research related to legislation; drafting model laws; preparing comments for submission in administrative rulemaking proceedings; communicating with the media; coordinating with affiliated lawyers, scholars, and students; and organizing conferences and other meetings to accomplish these duties.
Special Instructions:
The target salary range for this position is between the posted minimum and $6,250 monthly.
