We are seeking a cleared or clearable Software Engineering Manager for a critical role in our engineering organization to be responsible for managing a team and ensuring successful completion of projects.
This is a dual role position, involving direct management of talented team of high performing multi-discipline engineers as well as project engineering leadership for technically advanced development programs to produce cutting edge hardware and/or software products at the Xetron facility that support National Defense partners. The products produced at this facility support all domains of intelligence and defense battle-spaces including land, sea, air, cyber , and space. Many of the problem-sets our customers expect us to solve do not have known solutions, so ingenuity is essential.
We have a preference for candidates with experience in multiple relevant technology areas, such as software development, RF hardware development, electromechanical packaging, FPGA firmware development, or DSP algorithm development. Ideal candidates for this position have extensive breadth and depth of knowledge in all aspects of engineering. Less experienced candidates that demonstrate high technological aptitude with a willingness and desire to learn are equally qualified for this position.
Your direct management responsibilities will include:
- Managing and guiding multi-discipline engineers
- Setting objectives and then monitoring and reviewing yearly progress for your team
- Being responsible and accountable for managing the workload of your direct reports
- Recruiting, interviewing, and hiring top-ranked engineering talent
- Providing timely, constructive support and feedback to your reports on a regular basis
- Completing semi-annual performance assessments of your team members
- Motivating your team members (engagement) and facilitating regular meetings with them
- Providing mentoring and career development to each team member
- Coordinating training for each team member
- Providing appropriate tools and resources for your team’s development activities
Your project engineering leadership duties will include:
- Leadership of program technical execution in order to meet cost and schedule constraints
- Program staffing for optimal execution
- Technical direction, guidance, and mentoring of project team members
- Working programs, proposals, or internally-funded activities in a technical or leadership role
- Risk-mitigation planning and execution
- Strategic problem solving
- Earned value management
This position can be filled at the Level 1 or Level 2 manager level.
Basic Qualifications Level 1:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, or other STEM degree
Demonstrated technical leadership, engineering management, and/or program management experience
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Candidate must have minimum of 4 years’ experience in an engineering role
US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance
Basic Qualifications Level 2:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, or other STEM degree
Demonstrated technical leadership, engineering management, and/or program management experience
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Candidate must have minimum of 6 years’ experience in an engineering role
US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Current, active Top Secret clearance
Experience as a technical lead, functional lead, or leadership in the military.
Experience in multiple relevant technology areas
Experience in recruiting and developing top engineering talent
M.S., M.B.A., or other advanced degree
This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
